New Teacher - Before/After ArrivalPRIOR TO YOUR ARRIVAL TO KOREA Please complete and return the ID Card Application worksheet After you have made your travel arrangements for your flight and hotel, please complete the Teacher Arrival Form You also must obtain and Official Passport and A-3 Visa. Please refer to the Q&A's section for more information. (Policy Letter - Official Passport) HOTEL RESERVATION If your next duty station is Seoul, you can make your 30 day reservation at the Dragon Hill Lodge. Please make your hotel reservations at the Dragon Hill Lodge (DHL), which is located on the Yongsan Garrison Army Post in Seoul, Korea: DISTRICT IN-PROCESSING SCHEDULE Throughout the month of August, in-processing will take place at the District Superintendent’s Office (DSO) from 9:00 am – 2:00 pm. In-processing will take about 2-3 hours depending on the number of forms that have to be completed and the amount of questions that need to be answered. During in-processing, forms such as your travel/hotel claims, Housing Allowance, Federal and State tax withholdings, Direct Deposit signup, Life Insurance, and Health Insurance will be completed. UPON YOUR ARRIVAL IN KOREA There will be a Meeter Greeter to meet you at Incheon Airport. If your flight is cancelled or changed, contact us immediately so we can notify the Meeter Greeter. After you exit from customs and go through the glass doors, the Meeter Greeter will be there holding a sign with your name on it. If you do not see your name right away, then stay inside the fenced area and start at one end, taking your luggage cart, and scan all the signs as you go along until you reach the opposite end. There's also a page that will navigate you through your arrival. Click here to see more. DRAGON HILL AIRPORT BUS The Dragon Hill Lodge offers an airport shuttle bus from Incheon airport. INFORMATION ON TAXI There are three types of taxi service available: local taxis and deluxe taxis are available throughout the city, and taxis run by AAFES are available for use on the base. At Inch eon Airport, you may be approached by drivers to take you to your destination when you exit into the main hall. It is recommended that you not take these because they usually are not metered and charge high rates. It is always best to take taxis outside the main hall from the taxi stand. Local cabs (usually silver or white) are convenient and reasonably priced; all taxis are metered so bargaining is not necessary. Meter starts at 2,400 WON. Tipping is also not expected. Taxis can be hailed from anywhere on a street, although there are some taxi stands near the larger hotels. When hailing a cab, beckon with your hand facing down. Cabbies will not pick up a rider if they do not wish to go to that destination; they will also be disinclined to pick up fares during their shift change (usually late afternoon). Local cabs are allowed on the military bases only to Embassy housing through Gate 52 (Commissary Gate in Tongan, Seoul). Deluxe cabs are clearly marked (usually solid black car or black with gold strip down the side). Geared primarily for foreign tourists, the meter starts at 4,500 WON, and the drivers are said to have a grasp of Japanese and some English-language skills. Friendly Taxi Network Holdings Co. Ltd. runs a taxi dispatch service and offers a "deluxe taxi airport service," contracted through AAFES (Army Air Force Exchange Services) . The standard fare is 4,500 Korean Won for the first 3 kilometers. Customers can expect to pay about $63 for a one-way trip to Inch eon International Airport using the new service, including the highway toll fee. However, the fare can be more in heavy traffic conditions, with 100 won (about 7 cents) added for each 39 seconds the taxi is stopped or traveling less than 15 kilometers per hour. The new vehicles, mainly minivans, offer more luggage space, according to AAFES. Customers can call 1544-9080 (in country) or book on line at www.15449080.com to request a taxi. A 1,000 won fee — about 80 cents — will be added to all requests, except for mini van. The 1,000 won is "the industry standard approved by the Korean Ministry of Transportation," according to the AAFES release. International Taxis (aka foreigners' taxis)is an option for tourists. Basically, they are supposed to provide translation services in English, Japanese, and Chinese based on a reservation system. The taxi are entirely orange and all drivers should have passed foreign languages tests run by the city. There are three types: mid-size, deluxe and large-size. International taxis have a different fare system than regular cabs. For the meter fare system, passengers have to pay a 20 percent additional charge than fares charged by regular taxies. The taxi accepts T-Money cards and other credit cards as well, and must be reserved. However, if the taxi was not reserved but flagged down, the fare is the same as for regular taxis whether the passenger is Korean or foreign. A fixed fare is charged from the airport to three locations downtown or vice versa. For example, it costs 65,000 won for mid-size taxis and 95,000 won for deluxe taxis from Inch eon International Airport to the Gangway area, which is some 60-kilometers away.
